Can Russia do a shock attack on the USA?

Post by OgulcaN » Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:30 am

It could be done secretly, but it would take a few years. They keep sending troops as civilians to the USA. Of course they would need a plan on how to arm them when the time comes, forging documents I'm sure would be easy for the russian intelligence. Getting weapons in the USA is easy enough.. after they plant about 200 thousand they could launch the assault, this could also be a sabotage mission where they take out the targets that would make Russia's ability to strike easier. After that they could start dropping tanks and other such weaponry and airborne personnel, it would be more so a terrorist attack at first but then in time it would become a military fight. Just a thought.. It could possibly work. This isn't something I am claiming to be possible I'm simply stating a way in which it could be possible to get Russian military into USA, other than that it would be next to impossible.

Can they? Probably. (There’s one answer below from Jason Trainer that outlines one possible scenario.)

Are they likely to? Not unless they could guarantee a significant diminution in the MAD retaliation. MAD is Mutually Assured Destruction - the expectation that kept the fingers off the triggers in both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. during the Cold War. If either side let the missiles and bombers go, the other side would send an equal number of nuclear weapons to wipe out what whoever started it. Both sides wiped out.

Neutralizing MAD means one side has an advantage and they’d be free to strike. If that happens, the scales are unbalanced and all bets are off. If the Russians could do this in some sort of surprise attack, then I’d say there’s a slim chance they’d take the risk. Failure would, however, be catastrophic, and not only for the two adversaries. Which is why both Japan and South Korea are asking for Trump to stop antagonizing Kim Jong Un in their war of words. Too much at stake for the North Korean neighbors.

The biggest defenders of the USA are the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Any attack they would attempt would likely be stopped there. Even if they were somehow able to get people here the problem would be logistics. How would they resupply them? They would face fierce opposition from our military and even our regular citizens. America isnt the most powerful nation because we have the best fighters Or the largest military. It's because we have the best logistics. We have the best ability to deploy, equip, feed, supply, Medicate and hydrate anywhere in the world. And keep a constant flow going. We don't fight fair either. We always control the sea and air, we use satellites, we can see at night, and we have an amazing intel network. For every combat troop we have there are at least 15 other troops giving that guy a huge advantage over enemy combatants. Even if a surprise attack worked, it would be short lived and extinguished pretty quickly. Without any supply lines they would be defeated with hardly any triggers being pulled.

If it's a full-fledged mobilization, as in, they're getting all their missiles and soldiers ready for conflict, I doubt it.

We have satellites for this reason. Because we eyes in the sky all the time, we can track the progress of other countries. And a mobilization required to attack Europe or the US would result in us catching that progress, giving us at least a few days to make some preparations.

So, a war-like preparation? Nope. This isn't the early-20th century.

Yes they could , you cant watch everything everywhere . A non conventional raid could be delivered anywhere however it would have negligible effect on governance of the country, even an assassination of the President or an attack on Congress or the senate.

An invasion would take months involving a hundred thousand men, tanks artillery , planes, aircraft, boats ships , which would be obvious weeks if not months before.

Russia could launch a nuclear attack which would be detected 15 minutes before the USA was struck. However Russia knows that it would receive immediate retaliation. The result would be nuclear winter and the extinction of humanity

America, Russia or China it does not matter; a bit of tech, some creative thinking and some luck and YES you can get a couple plane loads of fighters pretty much anywhere.

But then what? Alot of paratroopers and alot of solders is two different sizes. And either group is still stuck far behind ENEMY lines cut off from support and supplies.

What damage they do is small compared to any big storm and any country worth invading can recover or rebound quickly.

IT DEPENDS

When Russia gets too annoyed or something, they can launch highly powerful missiles which can wipe out the whole country. But nothing goes unnoticed, Satellites are having Russia under their microscope. And they would also override rules of the UNSC and other treaties ( as if they've never done it ).

No.

If you mean militarily, the chance of a surprise attack from any country on the United States is almost zero.

Being blessed with two massive oceans, and having the world's strongest military with a extremely efficient intelligence and defence system makes a surprise attack by Russia unlikely.

On a small scale basis, yes. But not enough to actually take over the country. Surprise attacks come in many forms. In can be a massive land invasion, similar to Babarossa. But in the case, they would be detected before arrival. Or it could mean landing small forces to quietly wreak havoc. Depends on what the attack actually is.

Can such thing happen theoretically? Of course. USA and Russia have a lot of cannon fodder men and nuclear rockets
Is it really possible? No, because the consequences will be catastrophical not only for USA and RF but also for all world; you shouldn’t be genius to realize that. So, even if some tensions between Russia and USA increase, both sides will do everything possible to prevent direct conflict

I watched one program with a Russian Airborne General. So he made one comment which I thought was interesting:

“If the Russian President gives orders, Airborne Troops can arrive any destination in the world. And We don't need VISA for this.”

Can you get a second single re-entry permit on the same 3-month non-B visa?

Thanks.
